Function

The Co-Chairs of the National Physician Advisor Conference (NPAC) are responsible for the success of the annual American College of Physician Advisors (ACPA) educational conference, including ensuring that NPAC meets the professional development and skill building needs of the membership. This includes participation in tactical responsibilities as well as strategic oversight of the entire annual educational program. The NPAC Co-Chairs are not necessarily members of the ACPA Board of Directors but are responsible for maintaining reporting and communications with all ACPA leadership.

Leadership consists of the NPAC Champion and NPAC Co-Chairs working together to direct the conference. This position manages a team of volunteers and works collaboratively with ACPA and the contracted event planning company staff. Individuals agreeing to serve as Co-Chair should plan for an average of five hours per week of service over a ten-to-twelve-month planning period with one or two months possibly involving up to ten hours a week. An honorarium is offered in recognition of the additional time and expertise required to accomplish NPAC goals.

While typically an in-person onsite conference, circumstances may occasionally require planning of a virtual event.

Principal Activities

  • With the ACPA NPAC Champion, President, Treasurer, and management team, develops annual NPAC pricing, revenue, and attendance goals.
  • Works with ACPA and the contracted event planning company staff in the development of a balanced NPAC annual budget.
  • Works closely with ACPA and the contracted event planning company staff in the development of a master operational plan and timeline including division of duties and deadlines.
  • Ensures that an adequate number of skilled volunteers/advisors are recruited for all tasks requiring specific physician advisor and medical education oversight.
  • Participates in the oversight of reviews of all presentation submissions and makes final decisions on speakers and content.
  • Attends and leads regularly scheduled NPAC planning meetings, provides leadership, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
  • Works with the ACPA staff to develop agendas for all regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Drafts communications to specific groups as necessary. As appropriate, these communications may be distributed by the Co-Chairs, ACPA staff, or another appropriate volunteer or vendor.
  • Monitors NPAC accomplishments and performance against the master operational plan.
  • Facilitates regular communications with the ACPA NPAC Champion, President, Executive Committee, and Board of Directors and reports on NPAC as requested at Board of Director and Executive Committee meetings.
  • Participates in the development of marketing strategies for implementation as appropriate by vendors, volunteers, or ACPA staff.
  • With the contracted event planning company staff, the ACPA NPAC Champion, President, and leadership, participates in decision making around future NPAC venues, sites, and platforms as appropriate.
  • Helps identify and cultivate future NPAC Co-Chairs and/or volunteers.
