Dailybreak Digest: Fall Edition
Every season, we'll dive into a topic to help you become a Dailybreak Pro. Feel free to contact us if there are specific things you'd like us to cover in future issues. We want to know what you think!
Games
You may be familiar with the Lists and Quizzes we have on Dailybreak.com. But, have you discovered our Games yet? This issue will introduce the different types of Games you can find on our site. If you want to see all the Games we offer, click on Sort in the top navigation bar, then Games in the dropdown menu (see below).
Memory Match
Our newest game type is Memory Match. Below is an example of a memory match we created to celebrate National Vegetarian Day. (Check it out here.)
First you see the back of a set of cards (the Dailybreak logos). Click on two cards to turn them over and see if they match. Try to memorize the images before they flip back. Each time you try to find a match, one of your attempts is used up (we keep track for you at the bottom). You'll get more points if you can solve the puzzle with fewer attempts.
Here's what it looks like if you get them all correct. Note, this image won't help you win - we re-shuffle the cards every time you play. Refresh the page if you want to try again. Remember, you can only earn points the first time through. For example, below you can see the yellow and blue check marks at the bottom indicating that we already received our points. Those check marks will stay there no matter how many times you play. And now we're craving veggies......
Here's a few other Memory Match Breaks you can try:

Spot the Difference
Another game we feature is Spot the Difference. We will show you two photos side by side, and you just need to click on any differences that you can find between them. We have a countdown timer that will show you how much time you have left. Here's an example from the game Can You Find the Differences in these Photos of Halloween Treats?
If you get stuck, you can click on "Give Up?" in the bottom right corner. However, you only get points if you get them all correct, so don't give up too soon!

Ad Lib
Ever play a Mad LibsTM game on a long car ride as a kid? It was a book with one page asking you for a noun, verb, adjective, etc. Then you'd fill in the next page with the words you thought of to create a silly story. Same idea here, but we do it digitally. We also give you suggestions if you're not feeling creative. Here's a peek at what that looks like, from Here's the Day in the Life of a Seagull.
You can type in your own word, or click one of the options below. Forgot what an Adverb is? Click on the ? icon to get more info.
At the end, you'll get to see your silly story. Click on the Gallery button at the bottom to read stories that other folks came up with. Whose is the funniest?

Photo Upload
Sometimes we'll ask you to do a Photo Upload. Here's a game we built for the Rio Games this summer: What Sport Would You Do For The Summer Games?
When we ask you to upload a photo, you'll see a screen that looks like this:
You have a few options here. You can drag a photo of yourself, your friends or your pet from your desktop into the box in the middle. You can also choose a file from anywhere on your computer. Don't have a photo handy? Take a new one by clicking on "Take Picture" in the top left. This may look a bit different if you're using your mobile phone, but it will work the same way.
For this example, we uploaded a photo of Bill Nye (The Science Guy).
We toggled between the sports photos at the top and decided to make him look like a boxer. Then, we used the buttons to resize the photo and rotate it slightly so it fit in the face hole well. (Pro tip: you can also drag and drop the photo itself within the background to put it in a better position.)
Next, we decided to try a different one. We hovered the cursor over the Dailybreak logo on the bottom right corner of the image and clicked on the "Try Again" button that appeared. We went through the upload process again. This time, we decided to make singer Jennifer Lopez into a swimmer. Then we hit "Save Photo" so we could see our work of art.
She looks nice, right? From here, we can share with our friends and go on to see other folk's creations in the gallery.
