KEELY AND DU
Theatre On Consignment will resume its 2004-2005 season with Keely & Du by Jane Martin, a hard-hitting, thoughtful, provocative drama dealing with the hot-button issue of abortion. The play will run November 11, 12, 13, 19, and 20 at 8pm and November 21 at 2pm in the Linesight Theatre, located at 143 N. Rock Island on the third floor.
Du (Kay Carroll), a radical right-to-life activist, keeps guard over Keely (Amber Malott), a pregnant rape victim who has been kidnapped by Du’s militant pro-life group in order to prevent her from having an abortion. During the course of Keely’s captivity, the two women first spar and argue, then transcend their immediate circumstances and differing beliefs to forge a compassionate recognition of each other’s humanity—but this bond is jeopardized by the unbending beliefs of Keely’s captors—particularly their unbending leader, Walter (Robert Thomas). Mac Welch and Adrienne Matzen co-star. Cherice Henderson directs.
Keely & Du was first produced in 1993 by the Actors Theatre of Louisville, as part of the Humana Festival. Theatre On Consignment's production is produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.
Tickets are $8 ($5 for students and seniors). Opening night tickets (Thursday, November 11) are “Buy 1, Get 1 Free”. Seating is limited, and tickets can be reserved by calling Theatre On Consignment at 265-2226. The play contains some adult language and themes and is intended for mature audiences.
